Healing and care environments
Michael Westley is a Department of Health NHS Design Review Panel Member.
Westley Design works extensively in healthcare settings, including: acute care/ general hospitals, primary care, hospices, elder and child care environments.
We multi-sensory landscapes that positively benefit the health and well-being of service users, clinical / support staff and visitors.
Reseach shows that high quality external spaces in healthcare settings enhance speed of patient recovery, reduce drug regimes, and improve staff working lives, attendance and productivity.
Westley Design consult inclusively with all stakeholders to ensure that the space works on a number of levels:
- Clinical support – designing spaces with clinicians and health care professionals to support clinical and care program delivery involving both physical and psychological therapeutic functions.
- Collaborating with artists and makers to enrich the quality and functionality of space and host art and horticultural therapy .
- General therapeutic benefit – the presence of enhanced environments can engender well-being in users within otherwise stressful contexts.
- Flexible ‘Community’ Amenity – our designs function effectively as venues for meetings, break out spaces, performance or exhibitions.
